About The Position

Gelson’s is hiring a Floral Designer to support the daily operations of its floral department in Newport Beach. The role involves processing floral deliveries, merchandising, creating floral designs, and maintaining floral products and displays. The Floral Designer provides customer service, supports product ordering and storage, monitors freshness and presentation, and helps maintain a safe, clean department. The position also includes operating cash registers and taking on other duties as needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in a grocery retail setting.
One year of floral design experience.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Ability to lift and move heavy items and stand for extended periods.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Knowledge of the care, maintenance, and handling of flowers, foliage, indoor plants, and related items.
Proficiency in fresh and silk/dried floral design, including all-occasion production design.
Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

Certificate in floral design; successful completion of a floral design test.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service by answering product inquiries, helping shoppers locate items, and resolving concerns.
Process plants and flowers for merchandising on the sales floor.
Price flowers, plants, and arrangements as directed.
Assist with display arrangements and arrange or wrap items at customers’ request.
Place and receive product orders, ensuring accuracy and proper storage of incoming merchandise.
Monitor product quality, freshness, and presentation, removing damaged items.
Follow company policies and procedures, health and safety regulations, and sanitation guidelines.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Be a flexible team player and take on responsibilities as needed.
Operate cash registers and handle customer transactions accurately.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
