Floral Designer
About The Position
The Floral Designer represents 1-800-FLOWERS.com positively and designs floral merchandise to meet the needs of retail and wire-service customers. The role produces arrangements efficiently for daily operations and holiday periods, follows store procedures for order fulfillment, pricing, inventory, and product care, and consults with customers about weddings, funerals, parties, special events, and custom floral designs. The designer helps maintain a clean, well-organized design and storage area; monitors and rotates flowers to preserve freshness and reduce waste; supports inventory and ordering; and assists with related activities such as staff training and workshops. Standard production is four arrangements per hour, or six per hour for the core menu. The position requires full-time availability, availability for extra hours and floral holidays, and the ability to perform physically demanding work.
Requirements
- Knowledge of floral design principles and techniques and current floral design trends.
- Ability to work full time.
- Good attention to detail.
- Good math skills.
- Availability for extra hours and all floral holidays.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, stand for long periods, traverse stairs throughout the day, and work in a physically demanding manner.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to creating a positive store image.
- Apply floral design principles, techniques, and current trends.
- Care for and handle floral products according to 1-800-FLOWERS procedures.
- Produce and design arrangements efficiently and on time during daily operations and holiday production.
- Meet the store’s standard arrangement production of four per hour, or six per hour for the core menu.
- Maintain standard makeup inventories and keep items fresh in the cooler.
- Price makeup accurately according to store procedures and follow standard recipes.
- Conduct customer consultations for weddings, funerals, parties, special events, sympathy arrangements, and other custom orders.
- Prepare and fill orders according to invoice instructions.
- Maintain the design and storage areas, including ongoing cleaning and daily maintenance.
- Assist with inventory, ordering, flower turnover and rotation, and makeup supply inventories to reduce waste and control costs.
- Assist with other activities as requested, such as staff training and workshops.
- Perform holiday makeup production.
