Floor Staff
About The Position
Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is a multidisciplinary arts center in Brooklyn, New York, presenting theater, dance, music, opera, film, and other programming. Floor Staff work at BAM Rose Cinemas and provide customer service to patrons while helping operate the Box Office, Concession Stand, Door, and ushering and cleaning functions. With guidance from the Cinema Management Team, staff learn and perform all facets of the position, help ensure smooth cinema operations, and maintain health and safety standards. The role is part-time, on-site, and averages 16–23 hours per week. It pays $21.00 per hour and is represented by Local 2110 under the BAM/UAW Local 2110 Collective Bargaining Agreement. The position is non-exempt and eligible for Sick and Safe Time and Paid Hours Off.
Requirements
- Ability to provide friendly and polite customer service.
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to climb stairs and stand throughout performances and for long periods.
- Ability to lift boxes and lift or carry objects weighing 10–15 pounds.
- Works well with others and is a team player.
- Must be at least 18 years old due to beer and wine sales.
- Previous customer service experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent multitasking skills.
- Extremely organized and enjoys working systematically.

Responsibilities
- Learn and use multiple point-of-sale software systems at the concession stand and ticket box office.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with customers, direct them around BAM buildings, and answer relevant questions.
- Report to work promptly and maintain a welcoming, professional, and upbeat appearance.
- Maintain a balanced cash register at the concession stand and ticket box office.
- Maintain the daily upkeep of cinema spaces, workspaces, and the lobby during operations.
- Ensure beer and wine sales comply with New York City laws and regulations.
- Work as part of a team and follow directions from managers.
- Learn and perform all facets of the position, including concession, door attendant, box office attendant, floor staff, and cleaning duties.
