Finance Director - San Diego, CA

Ever Cars•San Diego, CA

About The Position

Ever is hiring a Finance Director to own the finance and insurance (F&I) vertical for its San Diego location. Reporting to the GM, this leader will manage the site Finance Managers and oversee F&I strategy, operations, profitability, compliance, and performance. The role involves working in stores to review deals, coach managers, and improve how F&I processes are carried out in practice. The Finance Director will own lender strategy and relationships, the protection-product portfolio and margins, the F&I menu and presentation standards, compensation design, and the compliance and training framework. The role also owns back-end gross performance, contract accuracy, funding speed, and F&I reporting used by management. Success includes improving and sustaining per-unit back-end gross as volume grows, keeping F&I staff certified and deal files audit-ready without recurring disclosure or documentation findings, and reducing funding delays, kickbacks, rewrites, and contracts in transit. This is an on-site position in San Diego, with availability required during high-volume periods, weekends, and month-end close.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of automotive F&I experience, including at least 3 years leading F&I managers or serving as a corporate or regional F&I leader.
  • Demonstrated record of improving back-end gross and product penetration without increasing compliance risk or customer complaints.
  • Deep working knowledge of lender programs, reserve structures, and protection-product economics, with established lender and product-provider relationships.
  • Command of the regulatory framework governing F&I, including Truth in Lending, Equal Credit Opportunity and adverse action, and applicable state requirements.
  • Experience leading managers, including hiring, performance management, and building certification and training programs.
  • Hands-on experience designing or restructuring F&I compensation plans.
  • Comfort with a modern DMS and menu environment, and ability to analyze deal-level data rather than rely only on summary reports.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in electric vehicle retail or a direct-to-consumer sales model where much of the deal occurs before the customer arrives.
  • Experience in a used-vehicle-only operation.
  • AFIP certification or equivalent.
  • Experience establishing an F&I function or standardizing it across sites that had been operating independently.

Responsibilities

  • Own F&I profitability, including product penetration, reserve, and per-unit back-end gross, and develop plans to improve each measure.
  • Own the lender panel, buy rates, reserve structure, and program terms, and manage lender relationships affecting approval depth and funding speed.
  • Select, price, and manage the protection-product lineup and provider relationships, balancing customer value and margin.
  • Define and standardize the F&I menu and customer presentation across sites.
  • Build and maintain the F&I compliance framework and certification program, including disclosure accuracy, adverse-action handling, rate and product integrity, and documented training.
  • Own contract accuracy and time to funding, and reduce contracts in transit, kickbacks, and rewrites through process improvements.
  • Own F&I reporting for management, including performance by site, manager, and product, and analyze performance drivers.
  • Lead site Finance Managers, review deals in stores, coach managers, and improve execution.
  • Design or restructure F&I compensation plans.
  • Hire and manage people, and build certification and training programs.
