Finance Director - San Diego, CA

Ever•San Diego, CA
•$125,000 - $225,000•Onsite

About The Position

Ever is hiring a Finance Director to own the finance and insurance (F&I) vertical at its San Diego location. Reporting to the GM, the Finance Director will lead site Finance Managers and oversee lender strategy, product portfolio, customer presentation standards, compensation design, compliance, and back-end gross performance. The role is based in the stores, reviewing deals, coaching managers, and improving how F&I processes work in practice. The Finance Director will own F&I profitability, lender relationships and programs, protection product selection and pricing, consistent customer menus and presentations, compliance and training, contract accuracy and funding speed, and performance reporting for leadership. Success means increasing and sustaining per-unit back-end gross as volume scales, maintaining a clean compliance record with certified F&I staff and audit-ready deal files, and speeding up funding while reducing kickbacks, rewrites, and contracts in transit. This is an on-site role in San Diego, with no remote or hybrid arrangements. Availability is required during high-volume periods, weekend hours, and month-end close. Compensation is $125,000–$225,000 OTE, consisting of base salary and commission.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of automotive F&I experience, including at least 3 years leading F&I managers or serving as a corporate or regional F&I leader.
  • Demonstrated success raising back-end gross and product penetration without increasing compliance risk or customer complaints.
  • Deep working knowledge of lender programs, reserve structures, and protection product economics, with established lender and product-provider relationships.
  • Command of the F&I regulatory framework, including Truth in Lending, Equal Credit Opportunity and adverse action, and applicable state requirements.
  • Experience leading managers, including hiring, performance management, and building certification and training programs.
  • Hands-on experience designing or restructuring F&I compensation plans.
  • Comfort using a modern DMS and menu environment, and analytical ability to work from deal-level data rather than summary reports.
  • Availability during high-volume periods, weekend hours, and month-end close.
  • Ability to work on-site in San Diego; remote and hybrid arrangements are not available.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in electric vehicle retail or a direct-to-consumer sales model where much of the deal takes place before the customer arrives.
  • Experience in a used-vehicle-only operation.
  • AFIP certification or equivalent compliance credential.
  • Experience establishing an F&I function or standardizing one across independently operated sites.

Responsibilities

  • Own F&I profitability, including product penetration, reserve, and per-unit back-end gross, and develop plans to improve each measure.
  • Manage the lender panel, buy rates, reserve structure, program terms, and lender relationships to support approval depth and funding speed.
  • Select, price, and manage the protection product lineup and provider relationships, balancing customer value with margin.
  • Define and implement a consistent F&I menu and presentation standard across every site.
  • Build and maintain the F&I compliance framework and certification program, including disclosure accuracy, adverse action handling, rate and product integrity, and documented training.
  • Own contract accuracy and time to funding, and reduce contracts in transit, kickbacks, and rewrites through process improvements.
  • Own F&I reporting for leadership, including performance by site, manager, and product, with analysis of performance drivers.
  • Lead site Finance Managers through in-store deal reviews and coaching.
  • Hire and manage people, oversee performance, and build certification and training programs.
  • Design or restructure F&I compensation plans and manage their outcomes.
