Field Service Technician | CDL Required
About The Position
Airgas is seeking a safety-minded Field Service Technician near Portsmouth, Virginia, to install, maintain, repair, and remove bulk storage tanks and beverage carbonation systems at customer sites. This is not a delivery-route driving job: technicians operate commercial service vehicles, such as F-550s or box trucks, primarily to travel between customer jobs across a service area within a 150-mile radius of Portsmouth. The position pays $28.00 per hour, with overtime availability, and is scheduled Monday through Friday with a 7:00 AM start time. Technicians work independently, adapt to changing daily schedules, and may occasionally stay overnight depending on territory needs. Airgas provides the tools, drills, and lines needed for the work.
Requirements
- Hold a Class A or Class B CDL with Hazmat endorsement.
- Have no more than two traffic convictions or at-fault accidents within the last three years.
- Have no driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance within the last seven years.
- Be able to work in a drug-free environment.
- Have one year of CDL driving experience within the last five years, or a certificate of completion from a trucking school completed within the last 12 months.
- Be self-motivated, trainable, and adaptable to changing daily schedules.
- Be willing to travel, including occasional overnight stays depending on territory needs.
Nice To Haves
- CO2 or other specialty gas experience is a plus, but not required; training is provided.
Responsibilities
- Install centralized Microbulk cryogenic tanks and beverage carbonation systems at commercial customer sites.
- Run lines and tubing, set up gas monitors, and mount control boxes using hand tools, power tools, and drills.
- Respond to service calls and troubleshoot gas-line or tank issues.
- Inspect systems and replace faulty equipment to minimize customer downtime.
- Perform physical work including using ladders, running tubing through ceiling tiles, drilling into structures, and maneuvering large stainless steel tanks with specialized hand trucks.
- Travel between customer jobs in a commercial service vehicle throughout the assigned territory.
