Fast and Fresh Department Manager
About The Position
The Fast & Fresh Department Manager sets the standard for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, and profitability across the department while presenting quality products at competitive prices. The manager leads and develops the team, drives sales, manages inventory and pricing, and ensures the department operates efficiently and profitably. This is a fast-paced, customer-focused leadership role performed inside the store and outside at the fuel area. The manager works with the Store Director and other store leaders to set department goals and oversees department employees. High school diploma or equivalent experience is required; more than one year of related work experience is preferred. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
- Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in varied situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to accurately perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to file, post, and organize materials, copy data accurately between records, and provide clear direction.
- Ability to lead and develop a team and build a collaborative, customer-focused department culture.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas.
- Where applicable, ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation.
- Where applicable, ability to work around heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment.
- Where applicable, ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards.
- Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.

Responsibilities
- Provide prompt, friendly customer service and make customer interactions positive.
- Promote a positive atmosphere of friendliness, teamwork, and accountability.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, discipline, and evaluate department employees.
- Determine department goals with the Store Director and prepare the department work schedule.
- Establish and communicate a daily work plan, share sales information and ideas with employees, and address customer issues promptly.
- Inspect signage and displays for merchandise quality and quantity, and order replenishment product.
- Set retail prices, verify pricing accuracy, and keep prices competitive in the market area.
- Extend and post invoices and oversee department bookkeeping procedures.
- Analyze weekly and monthly sales and trends, compare results with actuals, prepare advertising projections, and write ads.
- Conduct department inventory and plan displays, promotions, and pre-orders.
- Maintain proper temperatures and storage procedures to protect freshness and control shrink.
- Understand and troubleshoot equipment and ensure maintenance is performed.
- Fill displays; work in the sales area; unload trucks; check in deliveries; and place products in appropriate storage areas.
- Attend meetings and seminars and participate in continuing education.
- Handle confidential employee compensation, financial results, inventory, sales, profit, and warehouse pricing information discreetly.
- Follow Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines.
- Report to work as scheduled and work the expected number of hours.
