About The Position

The Fast & Fresh Department Manager sets standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, and profitability across the department, while presenting quality products at competitive prices. The manager leads and develops the team, drives sales, manages inventory and pricing, and ensures the department operates efficiently and profitably. The role reports to the Store Director, Store Manager, and Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home, and supervises Fast & Fresh Department employees. A high school diploma or equivalent experience is required; more than one year of related work experience is preferred. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent experience.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in varied situations with limited standardization.
Ability to accurately perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Ability to file, post, and organize materials, accurately copy data between records, and provide clear direction.
Ability to lead and develop a team and build a collaborative, customer-focused department culture.
Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
Where applicable, ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation.
Where applicable, ability to work around heat- and burn-related hazards from cooking, baking, or grilling equipment.
Where applicable, ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards.
Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and make customer interactions positive.
Promote a positive atmosphere of friendliness, teamwork, and accountability.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, discipline, and evaluate department employees.
Determine department goals with the Store Director and prepare the department work schedule.
Establish daily work plans, communicate with employees about sales and ideas, and promptly address customer issues.
Inspect signage and displays and order products for replenishment.
Set retail prices, ensure pricing is correct, and keep prices competitive in the market area.
Extend and post invoices and oversee department bookkeeping procedures.
Analyze weekly and monthly sales and trends, compare results with actuals, prepare advertising projections, and write ads.
Conduct department inventory and plan displays, promotions, and pre-orders.
Maintain proper temperatures and storage procedures to ensure freshness and control shrink.
Troubleshoot equipment and ensure maintenance is performed.
Fill displays, work in the sales area, unload trucks, check in deliveries, and store products appropriately.
Attend meetings and seminars and participate in continuing education.
Handle confidential employee compensation, monthly results, inventory reports, sales and profit data, and warehouse pricing with discretion.
Follow Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines, report as scheduled, and work the expected number of hours.
