About The Position

The Fast & Fresh Department Manager sets the standard for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, and profitability across the department while presenting quality products at competitive prices. The manager leads and develops employees, drives sales, manages inventory and pricing, and ensures the department operates efficiently and profitably. The role is fast-paced and performed inside the store and outside at the fuel area.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
Over one year of related work experience preferred.
Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in varied situations with limited standardization.
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages accurately.
Ability to file, post, and organize materials, copy data accurately between records, and guide people clearly.
Ability to lead and develop a team and build a collaborative, customer-focused department culture.
Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas.
Where applicable, ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation.
Where applicable, ability to work around heat- and burn-related hazards from cooking, baking, or grilling equipment.
Where applicable, ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards.
Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and make customer interactions positive.
Promote friendliness, teamwork, accountability, and a positive attitude in the department.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, discipline, and evaluate department employees.
Determine department goals with the Store Director and prepare the department work schedule.
Establish daily work plans, communicate with employees about sales and ideas, and address customer issues promptly.
Inspect signage and displays and order products for replenishment.
Set retail prices, ensure pricing is correct, and keep prices competitive in the market area.
Extend and post invoices and oversee department bookkeeping procedures.
Analyze weekly and monthly sales and trends, compare results to actuals, prepare ad projections, and write ads.
Conduct department inventory and plan displays, promotions, and pre-orders.
Maintain proper temperatures and storage procedures to preserve freshness and control shrink.
Troubleshoot equipment and ensure maintenance is performed.
Fill displays, work in the sales area, unload trucks, check in deliveries, and place products in appropriate storage areas.
Attend meetings and seminars and participate in continuing education.
Handle confidential employee, financial, inventory, sales, profit, and pricing information discreetly.
Follow Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines and report to work as scheduled for the expected number of hours.
