About The Position

The City and County of Denver is seeking a seasoned plumbing leader to join their Facility Management Team at Denver International Airport (DEN). This individual will lead the day-to-day operations of DEN’s plumbing service call division, overseeing a team of plumbers and coordinating with the corrective maintenance team to ensure timely and effective resolution of service requests. DEN is a busy airport, serving millions of passengers annually and acting as a significant economic engine for Colorado. Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Four (4) years of experience in journey-level skilled trades or in facility maintenance operations.
  • A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Positions supervising Plumbers require possession of a valid Journey Plumber's License issued by the State of Colorado at the time of application.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
  • Experience leading and supervising plumbing technicians.
  • Extensive technical and hands-on experience in large commercial plumbing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to changing schedules, operational needs, and emergency situations.
  • FBI criminal background check is required.
  • Must report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain FBI clearance.
  • Valid work authorization that does not require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff performing technical construction, maintenance, and repair of DEN facilities.
  • Support departmental goals and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and workflow.
  • Perform computer-based tasks, including reviewing, updating, and closing work orders in the work order management system (Maximo).
  • Prepare documentation, presentations, and reports using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Plan, schedule, assign, and evaluate staff work.
  • Provide technical guidance and establish unit goals and objectives.
  • Inspect construction and installation work for compliance with specifications, layout standards, and timelines.
  • Review completed work and provide corrective feedback.
  • Implement and enforce safety standards and develop procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Plan, budget, and schedule maintenance and repair activities.
  • Evaluate repair options and recommend internal repairs, contract services, or equipment purchases.
  • Prepare cost estimates, order materials, and maintain documentation of completed work.
  • Coordinate projects with other trade groups and engineers.
  • Serve as subject-matter expert and perform journey-level plumbing duties.
  • Develop preventive maintenance programs and recommend schedules for servicing specialized equipment.
  • Maintain records and prepare daily activity reports for maintenance, repair, and installation tasks.
  • Conduct interviews and select candidates for vacancies.
  • Resolve operational problems, mediate conflicts, promote teamwork, and ensure staff are informed about relevant organizational issues.
  • Document and recommend disciplinary actions, respond to grievances, and prepare written responses.
  • Establish performance goals, document performance, provide feedback, and formally evaluate staff.
  • Recognize accomplishments and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in mandatory snow removal duties.
  • Work extended hours and/or alternative shifts (includes nights, weekends, and holidays) if staffing challenges occur, weather conditions warrant, or an emergency crisis occurs.
