Under the direction of the Coordinator of Operations and Emergency Preparedness or an assigned administrator, the Facilities and Operations Manager plans, organizes, coordinates, supervises, and evaluates evening, night, weekend, holiday, and after-hours operational programs of the Maintenance and Operations Department. The position directly supervises assigned custodial staff, grounds maintenance crews, facility permit attendants, and after-hours site operations across District schools and facilities. Its focus is shift-level supervision, operational execution, quality assurance, and after-hours and weekend coverage, distinguishing it from the Coordinator of Operations and Emergency Preparedness, whose responsibilities are district-wide and administrative in scope. The manager coordinates facility-use permits, civic center events, after-hours security response, energy-management setbacks, and emergency operational disruptions. This is an FLSA-exempt management classification. Positions are exempt and work 12 months per year. The work takes place indoors and outdoors across multiple District locations, primarily on a flexible schedule covering evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, with on-call emergency response availability. The role requires driving to sites and includes extended walking and standing, occasional climbing and other inspection-related movements, and lifting objects up to 40 pounds. Hazards include seasonal weather extremes, cleaning chemicals, odors, noise, and possible contact with dissatisfied or hostile individuals at after-hours events. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and five years of increasingly responsible custodial and facility operations experience, including at least two years in a supervisory or lead capacity managing operational personnel across multiple facilities. A valid California Class C driver's license and continued insurability under District vehicle insurance coverage are required. College-level coursework in a related field is part of the stated education-and-experience qualification. BSIS training or certification is preferred; CPSI or QAC credentials are highly desirable. Examinations are required for all applicants. The announcement lists a written examination date of November 5, 2026, and anticipates oral examinations during the week of November 16, 2026; dates are tentative and no make-up dates will be offered. The District states that selected permanent or substitute hires must pay for fingerprinting and obtain tuberculosis results before beginning work. The District describes a healthcare-plan contribution of up to $2,500 per year, or cash in lieu of up to $1,350 per year. Full-time employees must purchase medical benefits unless they provide proof of alternate coverage; dental coverage is provided at no charge to employees working at least 20 hours per week, with additional premiums for family coverage paid by the employee. Classified employees participate in CalPERS, and all employees are enrolled in an Employee Assistance Program. Optional benefits include life insurance, short-term disability, and medical and dependent-care flexible spending options. Hayward Unified School District states its commitment to educational equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and safe, supportive learning environments. It seeks equity-minded applicants who value and promote diversity, demonstrate cultural competence and humility, support students furthest from opportunity, and work to disrupt systemic barriers. The District also describes its commitment to equal opportunity and nondiscrimination in its programs, activities, and practices.
