About The Position

BOS Security is reviewing resumes for a part-time event security officer position serving the Atlanta area. The officer will work events at Fernbank Science Center, with most events taking place after 5 p.m. Events occur monthly or bimonthly and may be scheduled on any day of the week, including weekends. Shifts last 4–8 hours. The officer will patrol the event, buildings, and grounds on foot; maintain a visible presence; help control crowds and maintain order; and perform assigned post duties in accordance with specific, general, and emergency instructions. Duties also include checking doors, windows, and gates; warning or removing people who violate rules or engage in suspicious or criminal acts; checking equipment and machinery for tampering; reporting hazards and security issues; observing departing personnel to deter theft; and allowing authorized people onto the property. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Stable work history.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening test and a background check; the position is subject to random drug testing.
A smartphone.
A valid driver's license and personal, working transportation; drop-offs and public transportation are not accepted.
Ability to travel 50 miles one way to work.
Clean driving history.

Nice To Haves

Security, law enforcement, military, or other related experience and/or training is preferred.

Responsibilities

Be trained and qualified to work the assigned post and understand its specific, general, and emergency instructions.
Patrol the event on foot for the entire shift and maintain a visible presence throughout the event.
Patrol buildings and grounds on foot.
Provide crowd control and maintain order during large events.
Examine doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure.
Warn people of rule infractions and apprehend or expel people engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.
Inspect equipment and machinery for signs of tampering.
Watch for and report irregularities, including fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and unlocked security doors.
Observe departing personnel to guard against theft of client property.
Permit authorized people to enter the property.
Perform other duties as assigned.
