About The Position

The Event Host plans, coordinates, and facilitates events—including children’s birthday parties and craft classes—inside a Michaels store, creating a fun and engaging experience for guests. The role also provides customer service and sales-floor support, helps customers find products, delivers a fast checkout experience, and performs store operations such as unloading trucks, stocking merchandise, and maintaining recovery and cleanliness standards. The position involves coordinating multiple events, instructing guests in craft projects, offering activities such as face painting, managing party add-ons, communicating with clients and coworkers, completing event-related administration, and adapting plans to client needs. Event Hosts are expected to prepare and clean event spaces, follow safety and cleanliness standards, and help ensure client satisfaction. Additional store duties include supporting rewards and credit-card enrollments, explaining customer surveys, assisting with BOPIS and SFS, participating in inventory and merchandising processes, supporting shrink and safety programs, and cross-training in custom framing. The work takes place in a public retail store, with some stock-room or outdoor work possible. Hours include nights, weekends, and early mornings.

Requirements

Retail and/or customer service experience is required.
Experience working with children and children’s events is required.
Excellent people skills and the ability to interact effectively with guests of all ages and coworkers.
Ability to handle job stress and remain positive and respectful in difficult situations.
Good written, verbal, and nonverbal communication and listening skills.
Organizational, interpersonal, and creative problem-solving skills.
Ability to remain standing for long periods and move throughout the store.
Ability to bend, lift, carry, reach, and stretch regularly.
Ability to lift heavy boxes and access high shelves using a ladder or similar equipment.

Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate multiple events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes.
Engage clients of all ages and create an environment of fun and creativity.
Demonstrate and instruct participants in craft projects, face painting, and other activities.
Facilitate party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons according to company standards.
Communicate event details with clients and store team members.
Complete event administration, including answering emails, making phone calls, and completing paperwork.
Adapt events based on client feedback and needs, prepare backup or emergency plans, and ensure client satisfaction.
Set up, break down, and clean event areas while upholding cleanliness and safety standards.
Help customers locate products and find solutions, and provide a fast, friendly checkout experience.
Promote the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards and complete enrollments.
Educate customers about the Voice of Customer survey.
Assist with Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS) processes.
Participate in truck unloading, stocking, planogram processes, merchandise recovery, and maintenance.
Perform Store in Stock Optimization (SISO) and ad-set duties as assigned.
Support shrink and safety programs and follow company procedures, policies, and standards.
Interact respectfully with customers and coworkers and model the company’s vision and values.
Cross-train in custom framing sales and production.
Participate in daily store cleaning, including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and restroom maintenance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
