About The Position

The Event Host plans, coordinates, and facilitates events—including children’s birthday parties and craft classes—within a Michaels store, creating a fun, creative, and stress-free experience for guests. The role includes communicating with clients and store team members, demonstrating craft projects, leading activities such as face painting, arranging event add-ons, responding to client feedback, and preparing backup plans. Event Hosts also handle event setup, cleanup, and administrative tasks, and uphold company cleanliness and safety standards. The role also supports the store’s customer experience and daily operations. Responsibilities include helping customers find products and solutions, providing friendly checkout service, promoting Rewards and Private Label Credit Card programs, and assisting with online order fulfillment. The Event Host participates in stocking, truck unloading, merchandise recovery, store maintenance, and safety and shrink programs. Team members are cross-trained in Custom Framing sales and production and may perform other assigned duties. The position is based in a public retail store. Store areas are climate controlled, although some stock rooms may not be; occasional outdoor work may be required. Work hours include nights, weekends, and early mornings. The role involves extended standing, moving throughout the store, frequent bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, and stretching, as well as lifting heavy boxes and accessing high shelves by ladder or similar equipment.

Requirements

Retail and/or customer service experience is required.
Experience working with children and children’s events is required.
Excellent people skills and the ability to interact effectively with guests of all ages and coworkers.
Energetic and enthusiastic personality; ability to handle job stress.
Good written, verbal, and nonverbal communication and listening skills.
Organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and creative problem-solving skills.
Ability to remain standing for extended periods and move throughout the store.
Ability to bend, lift, carry, reach, and stretch regularly; lift heavy boxes and access high shelves using a ladder or similar equipment.

Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate multiple events, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other activities.
Engage guests of all ages and create a fun, creative environment.
Demonstrate and instruct participants in craft projects, face painting, and other activities.
Facilitate event add-ons such as goody bags and balloons according to company standards.
Communicate event details with clients and store team members; complete related emails, calls, and paperwork.
Adjust events to client feedback and needs, prepare backup or emergency plans, and ensure client satisfaction.
Set up, break down, and clean up before and after events; follow cleanliness and safety standards.
Help customers locate products and provide solutions; deliver a fast, friendly checkout experience.
Promote the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, complete enrollments, and educate customers about the Voice of Customer survey.
Assist with Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS) processes.
Participate in truck unloading, stocking, planogram processes, merchandise recovery, Store in Stock Optimization (SISO), and ad set duties as assigned.
Support shrink and safety programs and follow company policies, procedures, and applicable requirements.
Interact respectfully and positively with customers and coworkers and serve as a role model for company values.
Cross-train in Custom Framing sales and production.
Participate in daily store cleanliness activities, including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and restroom upkeep.
Perform other duties as assigned.
