About The Position

Intel is seeking an Engineering Director to define, develop, and execute the roadmap for automated material handling systems (AMHS), factory automation, and autonomous logistics across greenfield and brownfield Assembly and Test factories. The role supports the transformation of Intel’s global Assembly and Test manufacturing network for advanced packaging, AI products, and high-volume semiconductor production. The successful candidate will combine semiconductor manufacturing operations experience, large-scale factory transformation expertise, and knowledge of emerging automation technologies. This role sets strategic direction while also driving execution. The director will create and execute a comprehensive automation strategy to improve productivity, scalability, safety, flexibility, and cost competitiveness across Intel’s global manufacturing footprint. As senior program leader, the director will define future-state factory architectures, align major capital investments, and lead complex factory conversion programs. The role also involves assessing current operations, prioritizing automation opportunities, implementing practical solutions with measurable business value, and developing the long-term automation vision for Assembly and Test factories. The director will define roadmaps for AMHS, autonomous logistics, robotics, digital manufacturing systems, and smart factory technologies, aligning those capabilities with manufacturing expansion plans, advanced packaging technologies, and future product requirements. The role manages equipment engineers responsible for selecting, developing, deploying, and ramping AMHS in CATD and ATM Assembly/Test factories.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10 or more years leading deployment of factory automation and material handling systems in the semiconductor industry.
  • Experience deploying material transport and storage in advanced-package assembly and test high-volume manufacturing.
  • Technical team leadership and direct management experience.
  • Experience with factory modeling and simulation, including Digital Twins and dynamic work-in-progress (WIP) simulation models.
  • Knowledge of WIP transportation hardware and robotics, including autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), overhead hoist transport (OHT), collaborative robots for loading and unloading WIP, and autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs).
  • Knowledge of material and WIP storage systems, including stockers and smart storage racks.
  • Experience with smart manufacturing automation, including scheduling for production material.
  • Manufacturing operations expertise in efficient process flows, manning ratios, and factory layout optimization.
  • Knowledge of Material Control Systems (MCS) for material tracking and dispatching, and integration of third-party systems into OEM factories, including Wi-Fi, GPS, and security certification.
  • Knowledge of AI integration and tools used in developing the automation areas described in the posting.
  • Knowledge of factory and facilities requirements for enabling and integrating systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead highly matrixed teams and manage budgets, resources, and timelines, and to align program scope and funding with senior management.
  • Strong technical group management skills, including team leadership, strategic planning, individual contributor coaching, and technical team career development.
  • Strong influencing, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Fundamental understanding of advanced packaging devices, fabrication processes, and technology.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills, including expertise in statistical design of experiments and problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to apply fundamental science and engineering concepts to develop novel solutions.
  • Self-initiated, able to work independently, and able to influence decisions across organizations.
