About The Position

The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) is a developmental leadership role within Walmart US store operations intended to prepare associates for potential Store Manager opportunities. The assignment is expected to last no longer than 12 to 18 months, although it has no guaranteed timeframe. Associates must maintain mobility within their assigned region for Store Manager applications and potential placement. Progression depends on successful completion of developmental milestones and competency assessments. If a Store Manager role is not secured within 12 to 18 months, next steps will be determined by performance and business needs and may include placement into another role at a different level. The ESM trains and develops across retail operations, people leadership, merchandising, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement. The position supports the store management team and helps execute business plans, meet customer and operational needs, develop associates, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with company policies and standards. Additional job-related responsibilities throughout the store may be assigned as necessary. The role promotes Walmart’s values and standards of ethics and integrity, including respect for individuals, serving customers and members, and striving for excellence. It also supports Walmart’s community outreach and sustainability efforts. The annual salary range is $85,000 to $120,000, with additional annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Certain positions may also include regional pay zone or complex-structure compensation.
