About The Position

The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) is a developmental leadership assignment intended to prepare associates for potential Store Manager opportunities in Walmart U.S. store operations. The role provides training and development across retail operations, people leadership, merchandising, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement. The assignment has no guaranteed timeframe but is expected to last no longer than 12 to 18 months, with an expectation of progressing into a Store Manager position within that period. Associates must maintain mobility within their assigned region for Store Manager applications and potential placement. If a Store Manager position is not secured within the timeframe, next steps will be determined by performance and business needs and may include placement in another role at a different level. The ESM learns to manage store financial performance, expenditures, budgets, sales and profit goals, forecasting, and business reports. The role supports effective merchandise presentation and inventory levels, customer service, staffing plans, talent pipelines, succession planning, community outreach, and associate relations. It also supports store management, policy compliance, asset protection, safety, quality assurance, business planning, operational improvements, and partnerships with stakeholders across the organization. The position includes supervision and development of associates and managers, while promoting Walmart’s values, ethics, inclusion, customer focus, and continuous learning. The annual salary range is $85,000 to $120,000. Additional compensation may include annual or quarterly performance bonuses and, for certain positions, regional pay zone or complex-structure compensation. Benefits include health coverage, financial benefits, paid time off, disability coverage, discounts, leave programs, adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, and the Live Better U education benefit. Benefit eligibility and terms may depend on job classification and length of employment and are subject to change.
