About The Position

The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) is a developmental leadership assignment intended to prepare associates for potential Store Manager opportunities in Walmart US store operations. The associate trains across retail operations, people leadership, merchandising, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement. The assignment has no guaranteed timeframe but is expected to last no longer than 12 to 18 months, with an expectation of progressing into a Store Manager position during that period. Associates must remain mobile within their assigned region for Store Manager applications and potential placement. If a Store Manager role is not secured within the timeframe, next steps will depend on performance and business needs and may include placement in a role at a different level. The ESM supports store financial performance, sales, staffing, customer service, associate development, community outreach, and store management. The role helps implement business plans and organizational objectives, monitors performance, ensures compliance with company policies, and supports asset protection, safety, and quality assurance. It also requires building effective partnerships across the organization and demonstrating Walmart’s values and standards of ethics and integrity. The annual salary range is $85,000 to $120,000, with additional annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Certain positions may also receive regional pay zone or complex-structure compensation. Walmart describes benefits including medical, vision, and dental coverage; 401(k); stock purchase; company-paid life insurance; paid time off; parental and family care leave; disability coverage; company discounts; adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement; and the Live Better U education program, among others. Benefits and eligibility may depend on job classification and length of employment and are subject to plan terms.
