About The Position

The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) is a developmental leadership assignment intended to prepare associates for potential Store Manager opportunities in Walmart US store operations. The role provides training and development across retail operations, people leadership, merchandising, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement. The assignment has no guaranteed timeframe but is expected to last no longer than 12 to 18 months, with an expectation of progression into a Store Manager position within that period. Associates must maintain mobility within their assigned region for Store Manager applications and potential placement. If a Store Manager role is not secured within the expected timeframe, next steps will depend on performance and business need and may include placement in another role at a different level. The ESM learns to manage store financial performance, sales and profit goals, budgets, business reports, and profit-and-loss statements. The role supports merchandise presentation and inventory, customer service, staffing and succession planning, associate development, community outreach, and relationships with organizational stakeholders. It also supports store management, business plans and projects, policy compliance, asset protection, safety, quality assurance, and corrective action. Successful completion of developmental milestones and competency assessments is expected throughout the assignment. The position requires applying Walmart's values and standards of ethics and integrity, building and developing teams, serving customers and members, making data-informed decisions, and supporting continuous improvement and learning. The role is based at the listed Walmart store in Bartlett, Tennessee. Walmart lists an annual salary range of $65,000 to $110,000, with potential annual or quarterly performance bonuses and, for certain positions, regional pay zone or complex-structure compensation.
