About The Position

Propak Energy Services is seeking a senior, hands-on field mechanic to independently diagnose, overhaul, start up, commission, and support large gas-drive engines and reciprocating compressor packages. The role requires verified OEM training, extensive practical experience, advanced technical judgment, and the ability to complete complex work without continuous guidance. Candidates should have top-level competency in at least one of Caterpillar 3600 or Waukesha VHP/VGF engines; Caterpillar 3600 expertise is particularly sought. The position involves working on Caterpillar 3500 and 3600 series engines, Waukesha VHP and VGF engines, and Ariel reciprocating compressors. The mechanic leads or supports overhauls, turnarounds, startups, commissioning, troubleshooting, diagnostics, quality control, documentation, and customer communication. The employee is expected to work directly on equipment for approximately 75%–80% of the role, with the remainder involving technician coordination, mentoring, quality control, and documentation. Candidates may be assigned to Williston, North Dakota, or Casper, Wyoming. Most work is in the field within approximately 100 miles of the assigned shop; travel to other domestic locations is required, and selected commissioning assignments may be international. Overnight travel, overtime, and on-call coverage may be required based on project and customer needs. The posted compensation is $47–$60 per hour, depending on verified experience, certifications, and technical capability. Williston-based employees receive a housing allowance subject to the stated workweek conditions. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates and may require an approximately two-year employment commitment.
