About The Position

Brock University is seeking Education Instructors - Practicum Advisors for the Practicum for Professional Collaborative Communities I (IS) course within the Department of Educational Studies, Teacher Education program. This role involves supporting teacher candidates in connecting their learning to practical experience, fostering their development as culturally responsive and competent practitioners. Practicum Advisors will work closely with PIs to implement curriculum that addresses educational inclusion, equity, and pedagogy, while being mindful of critical practices, unconscious biases, and inclusivity. The position requires a commitment to social justice, equity, and human rights issues as they relate to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, and socio-economic contexts.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience PK-12
  • Master’s degree or other recognized specialization in the field such as a 3-level specialization
  • Must hold an active membership in the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Must be in good standing with the OCT at the time of appointment
  • Demonstrated leadership in curriculum and/or education
  • Exhibits contemporary knowledge of educational theory and pedagogy including assessment
  • Knowledge about social justice and equity through anti-racist and anti-oppressive lenses
  • Experience facilitating challenging conversations and difficult topics with adult learners
  • Experience with teacher candidates or other adult learners
  • Competency in using educational technology and platforms for content creation, course management and delivery

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of teacher candidates as culturally responsive and competent practitioners.
  • Implement curriculum and teaching approaches that engage students in conversations on educational inclusion and equity and pedagogy.
  • Be aware of a variety of critical practices relevant to their field/subject area that can support all students, attend to unconscious biases, and encourage inclusivity.
  • Collaborate with associate teachers and principals.
  • Meet students in-person or on-line.
  • Marking / grading.
  • Attend program meetings and complete mandatory training as required.
  • Become familiar with and adhere to Brock University policies.
  • Complete required Brock instructor’s online tutorial prior to first class.
  • Complete required Gender and Sexual Violence supports for teacher candidates training.
  • Use a provided Brock email address for all Brock-related communications.
  • Collaborate and co-plan with co-instructor.
  • Effectively deliver all aspects of the course.
  • Manage instructional contact time and non-contact time according to requirements.
  • Adapt instructional and assessment strategies to accommodate diverse learning needs.
  • Advise, mentor, and provide feedback to teacher candidates in relation to course concepts/content and Professional Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards of the OCT.
  • Work collegially and collaboratively with other team instructors, course team lead(s) including attending team meetings and debriefings.
  • Advise, coach, mentor, and provide feedback to teacher candidates in Block 2 Practicum with reference to the Teacher Education Program Handbook.
  • Respond to associate teacher’s correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Participate, as warranted, in referral procedures as outlined in the Teacher Education Program Handbook.
  • Evaluate teacher candidates during the practicum.
  • Communicate on email to support teacher candidates in Block 2.
  • Submit final grades by deadlines.
