About The Position

Brock University is seeking Education Instructors - Practicum Advisors for the Practicum for Professional Collaborative Communities II (PJ and JI) course within the Department of Educational Studies, Teacher Education program. This role involves mentoring teacher candidates during their field placements, collaborating with associate teachers, and responding to correspondence. Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of recent (within the last 5 years) teaching/ school experience.
  • A master's degree or other recognized specialization in the field such as a 3-level specialization.
  • Must hold an active membership in the Ontario College of Teachers.
  • Must be in good standing with the OCT at the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated leadership in curriculum and/or education.
  • Exhibits contemporary knowledge of educational theory and pedagogy including assessment.
  • Knowledge about social justice and equity through anti-racist and anti-oppressive lenses.
  • Experience facilitating challenging conversations and difficult topics with adult learners.
  • Experience with teacher candidates or other adult learners.
  • Competency in using educational technology and platforms for content creation and communication.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and be a first point of contact for teacher candidates during their field placements.
  • Work with associate teachers and respond to their correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with associate teachers and principals.
  • Meet students in-person or online.
  • Marking / grading.
  • Attend program meetings and complete mandatory training as required.
  • Become familiar with and adhere to Brock University policies.
  • Complete required Brock instructor’s online tutorial prior to first class.
  • Complete required Gender and Sexual Violence supports for teacher candidates training.
  • Use a provided Brock email address for all Brock-related communications.
  • Manage instructional contact time and non-contact time, including managing learning management systems, student consultation, submitting final grades, and communication with the practicum office.
  • Coach/mentor teacher candidates (PJI) and work with associate teachers with reference to the Teacher Education Practicum Handbook.
  • Adapt instructional and assessment strategies to accommodate diverse learning needs in consultation with the practicum office.
  • Liaise with associate teachers and principals when needed.
  • Participate, as warranted, in the Department’s referral procedures as outlined in the Teacher Education Program Handbook.
  • Communicate on email to support teacher candidates.
  • Submit final grades by deadlines.
