About The Position

Brock University is seeking an Education Instructor - Practicum Advisor for the Practicum for Professional Collaborative Communities II (IS) course within the Department of Educational Studies, Teacher Education program. This role involves mentoring teacher candidates during their field placements, collaborating with associate teachers, and responding to correspondence in a timely manner. Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience.
  • Master’s degree or other recognized specialization in the field such as a 3-level specialization.
  • Must hold an active membership in the Ontario College of Teachers.
  • Must be in good standing with the OCT at the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated leadership in curriculum and/or education.
  • Exhibits contemporary knowledge of educational theory and pedagogy including assessment.
  • Knowledge about social justice and equity through anti-racist and anti-oppressive lenses.
  • Experience facilitating challenging conversations and difficult topics with adult learners.
  • Experience with teacher candidates or other adult learners.
  • Competency in using educational technology and platforms for content creation, course management and delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and serve as a first point of contact for teacher candidates (TCs) during their field placements.
  • Work with associate teachers (ATs) and respond to their correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Become familiar with and adhere to Brock University policies.
  • Complete required Brock instructor’s online tutorial prior to the first class.
  • Complete required Gender and Sexual Violence supports for teacher candidates training.
  • Use a provided Brock email address for all Brock-related communications.
  • Manage instructional contact time and non-contact time.
  • Adapt instructional and assessment strategies to accommodate diverse learning needs.
  • Advise, mentor, and provide feedback to teacher candidates in relation to course concepts/content and Professional Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards of the OCT.
  • Work collegially and collaboratively with other team instructors and course team lead(s), including attending team meetings and debriefings.
  • Collaborate with the Placement Office in arranging for/setting up placements.
  • Advise, coach, mentor, and provide feedback to teacher candidates in Block 3 Practicum with reference to the Teacher Education Program Handbook.
  • Liaise with associate teachers and principals when needed.
  • Participate, as warranted, in the Department’s referral procedures as outlined in the Teacher Education Program Handbook.
  • Communicate via email to support teacher candidates in Block 3.
  • Submit final grades by deadlines.
