About The Position

Brock University is seeking to fill five existing vacancies for Education Instructors for the EDBE 8P74 Professional Collaborative Communities course. This role involves implementing curriculum and teaching approaches that engage students in conversations on educational inclusion, equity, and pedagogy. Instructors are expected to be aware of critical practices relevant to their field, attend to unconscious biases, encourage inclusivity, and model the Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards of the Ontario College of Teachers. The appointment is for the Fall/Winter 2026-2027 academic term, from September 14, 2026, to February 23, 2027, with a nominal workload of 98 hours. The position is part of the CUPE4207-5 employee group and will be compensated at $36.03 per nominal hour effective September 1, 2025, and $37.11 per nominal hour effective September 1, 2026, excluding vacation pay. The role requires a commitment to inclusivity, accessibility, reconciliation, and decolonization, aligning with Brock University's strategic priorities and the Department of Educational Studies' commitment to social justice.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience
  • Master’s degree or other recognized specialization in the field such as a 3-level specialization
  • Must hold an active membership in the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Must be in good standing with the OCT at the time of appointment
  • Demonstrated leadership in curriculum and/or education
  • Exhibits contemporary knowledge of educational theory and pedagogy including assessment
  • Knowledge about social justice and equity through anti-racist and anti-oppressive lenses
  • Experience facilitating challenging conversations and difficult topics with adult learners
  • Experience with teacher candidates or other adult learners
  • Competency in using educational technology and platforms for content creation, course management and delivery

Responsibilities

  • Lead structured discussions and activities that connect practicum experiences to professional learning, classroom practice, and educational theory.
  • Guide teacher candidates in reflecting on their beliefs, experiences, and emerging professional identities through activities, discussions, and assigned tasks.
  • Assist candidates with interpreting and applying program learning from coursework and practicum placements to real classroom contexts, including classroom management, communication with stakeholders, and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Support candidates in developing skills for communicating with colleagues, administrators, parents/guardians, and other educational partners within professional learning communities.
  • Manage instructional contact time and non-contact time, including preparation of lecture materials, managing learning management systems, student consultation, marking or grading, holding office hours, and other course administration.
  • Adapt instructional and assessment strategies to accommodate diverse learning needs.
  • Advise, mentor, and provide feedback to teacher candidates in relation to course concepts/content and Professional Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards of the OCT.
  • Work collegially and collaboratively with other team instructors, course team lead(s), including attending team meetings and debriefings.
  • Work collegially and collaborate/instruct with the Practicum Advisor.
  • Mentor teacher candidates for practicum placements (I/S) with reference to the Teacher Education Program Handbook.
  • Submit final grades by deadlines.
  • Become familiar with and adhere to Brock University policies.
  • Complete required Brock instructor’s online tutorial prior to the first class.
  • Complete required Gender and Sexual Violence supports for teacher candidates training.
  • Use a provided Brock email address for all Brock-related communications.
