About The Position

Brock University is seeking Education Instructors for the course EDBE 8P01, Teaching in the Ontario Context (PJI), within the Department of Educational Studies, Teacher Education program. This role involves co-instructing and engaging students in discussions on educational inclusion and equity, implementing curriculum and teaching approaches, and modeling the Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards of the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT). Instructors are expected to be aware of critical practices relevant to their field, attend to unconscious biases, and encourage inclusivity. The appointment is from August 24, 2026, to December 8, 2026, with a nominal workload of 97.5 hours per instructor. Requirements

  • Normally, a minimum of 5 years of recent (last five years) teaching/school experience.
  • Master’s degree and/or formal research experience in the field of education.
  • Specialization in one or more of the following areas: The Learning Environment, Associate teaching, Teaching Combined Grades, Occasional Teaching, Orientation to Teaching in Ontario, Action Research, Adapting the Curriculum for the Catholic School System, Teaching in the Catholic School System.
  • Must hold an active membership in the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT).
  • Must be in good standing with the OCT at the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated leadership in curriculum and/or education.
  • Exhibits contemporary knowledge of educational theory and pedagogy including assessment.
  • Knowledge about social justice and equity through anti-racist and anti-oppressive lenses.
  • Experience facilitating challenging conversations and difficult topics with adult learners.
  • Competency in using educational technology and platforms for content creation, course management and delivery.
  • Experience with teacher candidates or other adult learners.

Responsibilities

  • Professionally bring to life the content and knowledge by implementing curriculum and teaching approaches that engage students in conversations on educational inclusion and equity.
  • Be aware of a variety of critical practices relevant to their field/subject area that can support all students, attend to our unconscious biases, and encourage inclusivity.
  • Exemplify competencies relevant to specific methods and foundations courses being taught while modeling the Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards of the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT).
  • Become familiar with Brock University policies and adhere to them.
  • Complete required Brock instructor’s online tutorial prior to first class.
  • Use a provided Brock email address for all Brock-related communications with teacher candidates and program personnel.
  • Collaborate and co-plan with co-instructor.
  • Effectively deliver all aspects of the course.
  • Manage instructional contact time and non-contact time (preparation of lecture materials, managing the learning management system(s), student consultation, marking or grading, holding office hours, and other course administration).
  • Adapt instructional and assessment strategies to accommodate diverse learning needs.
  • Advise, mentor, and provide feedback to teacher candidates in relation to course concepts/content and Professional Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards of the OCT.
  • Work collegially and collaboratively with other team instructors, course team lead(s) including attending team meetings and debriefings.
  • Submit final grades by deadlines.
