About The Position

The Donation Processing Associate works at The Salvation Army Thrift Store and helps turn community donations into funding for programs. The role is a first point of contact for donors and combines customer service, donation processing, and support for the organization’s community mission. The position is part-time, based in Iowa City, Iowa, pays $12.00 per hour, and is scheduled for 19 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.

Paid training is provided in donation processing, production standards, and store procedures, with ongoing coaching and support from store leadership. The position offers an opportunity to develop retail and customer service skills in a team-oriented environment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or currently pursuing one.
• Strong English communication skills for interactions with donors and team members.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn new systems.
• Basic math skills.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
• Availability for a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch as needed.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions, including outdoor exposure.

Responsibilities

• Greet donors, provide assistance, and deliver exceptional donor service.
• Process and track donations accurately.
• Maintain a clean and well-organized donation area.
• Sort, load, and unload Salvation Army trucks according to center policy.
• Power sort donations as they arrive, where applicable.
• Support production processes as needed.
• Safeguard donated materials and assigned equipment.
• Report complaints, damage, or injuries occurring in the donation area.
• Guide donors on acceptable materials and provide information about pickup services for heavy items.
