About The Position

This position receives and coordinates Durable Medical Equipment (DME) referrals from physicians, hospitals, facilities, and other community referral sources. It obtains required documentation for medical insurance coverage and uses specialized knowledge, judgment, and critical thinking to make decisions regarding patient care while integrating relevant regulatory and accreditation standards, resources, and data. The role provides family-centered referral services as part of the DME team and coordinates DME and supply services according to acceptable practice standards and hospital and Home Care policies and procedures. The position is intermittent remote, with a schedule that includes both at-home and on-site hours at a Children’s Mercy location. The employee must live in the Kansas City metro area.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent and 3–5 years of experience with a DME company; or an associate’s degree, with no experience necessary and on-the-job training provided.
Must live in the Kansas City metro area.
Seasonal influenza vaccination is a condition of employment. New employees must be willing to receive specified vaccinations if found non-immune or lacking evidence of vaccination; medical and religious exemptions may be discussed with Human Resources.
A drug screen will be performed upon hire.

Responsibilities

Coordinate Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and supply services in accordance with acceptable standards of practice and hospital and Home Care policies and procedures.
Maintain existing patients’ DME orders and authorizations.
Use proficient communication skills and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
Schedule and coordinate new referrals.
Receive and coordinate DME referrals from physicians, hospitals, facilities, and other community referral sources.
Obtain all required documentation for medical insurance coverage.
Provide family-centered referral services as part of the DME team.
