About The Position

Under the general direction of the General Manager, the District Operations Manager ensures the safe, efficient, legal, and economical daily operation of all branches in the assigned district, including transportation, warehouse, and tank farm operations. The role leads district operations personnel, oversees budgets and branch performance, maintains compliance with company and regulatory requirements, and drives consistent process improvements across branches. The position may require last-minute travel to support operations initiatives and includes travel throughout the district, with overnight travel required. It may be based in Fairfield, Fresno, Visalia, or Redwood City, California.

Requirements

7+ years of experience in operational leadership.
Strong supervisory experience.
HazMat certification, Hazwoper certification, and CVI.
Strong interpersonal skills in coaching and team building across organizational levels.
Strong decision-making ability, balancing customer needs and company objectives.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a diverse and significant workload.
Leadership abilities recognized by peers and subordinates.
Knowledge of all aspects of chemical distribution.
In-depth knowledge of chemical distribution facility operations and local, state, and federal regulations affecting facilities in the area of responsibility.
Working knowledge of governmental requirements related to the chemical industry, such as OSHA, EPA, RCRA, and DOT, or proven ability to attain such knowledge.
Ability to travel 25–50% throughout the district, including overnight travel.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Knowledge of chemical distribution facility operations preferred.

Responsibilities

Facilitate compliance with corporate health, safety, and environmental policies, including required training, documentation, and record keeping.
Support sales efforts in accordance with corporate and regulatory compliance and health, safety, and environmental standards.
Support emergency response teams across the district.
Manage the district health and safety program and conduct safety audits in accordance with company policies and requirements.
Ensure timely, comprehensive incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventative measures.
Communicate district performance, opportunities, issues, and branch or industry trends to leadership.
Ensure branches foster and maintain a positive work environment.
Lead all operations personnel assigned to the district.
Manage salary plans, personnel development, hiring, promotions, and termination of assigned employees.
Evaluate skill gaps and partner with Human Resources on development programs for subordinates.
Communicate performance expectations and implications to departments and teams.
Oversee completion of district staff training requirements and needs.
Mentor subordinate leaders in personnel management and model expected performance.
Communicate and reinforce roles and responsibilities within branches.
Provide effective, frequent communication from senior leadership to assigned branches.
Develop district branch budgets and operating plans in coordination with district and regional management; oversee plans and direct achievement of branch goals.
Participate regularly in District Business Meetings.
Prepare and present comprehensive District Reviews to leadership.
Ensure cooperation between Operations and Commercial teams.
Ensure district adherence to company quality processes.
Oversee year-end and periodic physical inventory completion and results.
Oversee efficient warehouse, repack, and transportation functions.
Implement operational initiatives and continuously identify and implement process improvements throughout the district, ensuring consistency among branches.
