About The Position

The District Manager builds consistently successful, manager-led stores that achieve KPIs and financial success while supporting the company’s culture and core values. The role sets clear goals for each store, ensures every Store Manager has a documented plan to reach them, and follows through until results are sustained. Performance is evaluated on individual store results across the district. The District Manager coaches, mentors, teaches, trains, and develops store leadership to achieve business results. When needed, the role takes an active part in store processes to ensure basic expectations are met. Long-term success means Store Managers can plan, lead teams, achieve goals, solve problems, and develop employees without constant intervention. This is a field-based role with frequent travel between district stores and occasional overnight travel for meetings or training. The schedule follows business needs and may include some evenings and weekends. Work takes place in retail showrooms, backrooms, and warehouse areas, including inspecting merchandise and vehicles. The position requires standing and walking for extended periods and safely lifting, moving, and carrying up to 50 pounds independently, with or without reasonable accommodation; heavier items require team assistance or appropriate safety equipment.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of multi-unit retail management experience, or at least 5 years as a successful Store Manager.
  • Proven record of achieving sales, profit, and collections or account-retention goals.
  • Experience hiring, coaching, evaluating, and documenting performance for managers or supervisors.
  • Strong working knowledge of P&L statements, budgets, payroll, and inventory controls.
  • Comfort with weekly reporting, spreadsheets, and store systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license, a motor vehicle record insurable by the company’s provider, and reliable transportation for daily travel between stores.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and safely lift, move, and carry up to 50 pounds independently, with or without reasonable accommodation; heavier items require team assistance or appropriate safety equipment.
  • Willingness to travel frequently between stores and occasionally overnight for meetings or training; schedule may include some evenings and weekends based on business needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Planner and finisher who turns goals into written plans with owners and deadlines and follows up until work is complete.
  • Coaching-first approach that asks Store Managers for their plans before supplying answers.
  • Evidence-based decision-making grounded in data and observed behavior, with consistent standards across stores.
  • Direct, composed communication and constructive feedback under pressure.
  • Accountability for district outcomes, early action on persistent issues, and documentation of meaningful conversations.
  • Trustworthiness, confidentiality, and sound professional judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Own district financial and operating results, including net profit, customers versus budget, weekly expected versus budget, rent collected, COGS, and payroll.
  • Review store results against budget, distinguish short-term fluctuations from sustained trends, and set store-specific actions to close gaps.
  • Report key store metrics and improvement plans to leadership regularly.
  • Teach Store Managers to make staffing, scheduling, inventory, sales, account-retention, and expense decisions.
  • Ensure stores have adequate staffing, four-week schedules, and accurate payroll records; review coverage, labor costs, and overtime, and coordinate staffing support between stores when needed.
  • Ensure each store knows its top three priorities and maintains a written action plan with a baseline, target, leading activities, owners, checkpoint dates, and status.
  • Address missed commitments with a decision and develop an annual district plan that translates budgets into quarterly, monthly, and weekly goals.
  • Visit stores on an established rotation prioritized by need and risk; review exceptions and compliance, account retention, inventory and operations, appearance and merchandising, and cash controls.
  • Coach Store Managers during store visits, leave no more than three priority actions with owners and due dates, and verify completion of previous actions.
  • Hold Store Managers accountable for safe delivery practices, company vehicle care, required inspections, employee safety procedures, and prompt reporting and resolution of accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions.
  • Verify inventory accuracy, merchandise presentation, timely refurbishment of returned merchandise, and functioning equipment; coordinate with Operations on issues outside store control.
  • Coach, develop, and hold Store Managers accountable while preserving their ownership of their work.
  • Complete evidence-based semi-annual Store Manager evaluations and lead improvement, development, and stretch plans with 30-, 60-, and 90-day checkpoints.
  • Oversee district staffing, hiring pipelines, training progress, and promotion readiness; build bench strength for Store Manager and future district-level positions.
  • Partner with Store Managers and Human Resources on employee evaluations, coaching, corrective action, and employee concerns; ensure issues are addressed promptly, documented appropriately, and handled consistently.
  • Review turnover, staffing stability, and employee feedback with Store Managers and Human Resources, and hold Store Managers accountable for improving onboarding, engagement, development, and retention.
  • Ensure Store Managers conduct effective daily team meetings, communicate company priorities, recognize achievements, and provide regular developmental feedback that supports a positive work environment.
  • Teach company processes, policies, and best practices to Store Managers and teams, and confirm consistent application.
  • Train managers to train their own staff; use store visits to demonstrate correct processes; track training and certification progress and verify retention and application.
  • Roll out new or updated company processes to every store and verify adoption.
  • Protect operational, customer-service, financial, and cultural standards across stores, ensuring growth does not compromise customer treatment, compliance, procedures, or core values.
  • Identify, document, and replicate strong practices across the district; diagnose root causes before intervening.
  • Monitor customer-service standards, support resolution of escalated concerns, and address recurring issues affecting satisfaction and retention.
  • Ensure teams follow approved payment-collection and account-retention procedures, treat customers respectfully, and meet applicable compliance requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business operations and the team.
