About the position
We are seeking a Director, Therapeutic Genome Editing with scientific leadership experience in molecular biology and genome engineering to lead our off-target characterization efforts. This role will involve providing strategic leadership, leading a team, and contributing to the selection and design of therapeutic candidates. The Director will also collaborate with key stakeholders, partner with the bioinformatics team, and participate in regulatory interactions. The ideal candidate should have a Ph.D. in a STEM-related discipline, at least eight years of biopharma industry experience, and substantial expertise in genome editing specificity assays.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to develop and operationalize genome-wide off-target characterization methods
- Motivate and lead a team of talented Scientists and Research Associates
- Directly contribute to the selection and design of therapeutic candidates
- Work collaboratively with key stakeholders to deliver pivotal genome editing specificity datasets
- Partner with internal bioinformatics and data science team for high throughput method development and data analysis pipelines
- Prepare accurate and timely data summaries and contribute to technical study reports, papers, and patent applications
- Participate in regulatory interaction meetings and provide strategic communication of off-target characterization results
- Lead the development of genome editing specificity assays, including on/off target analysis
- Utilize expertise in DNA repair pathways and mechanisms of cellular transformation to interpret off-target assay output
- Work with large datasets, including UK Biobank, Finngen, GnomAD, Exome variant server, 1000 Genomes, etc.
- Operationalize genome editing characterization workflows and develop study reports supporting regulatory filings
- Analyze large experimental data in partnership with computational biologists to draw statistically significant conclusions
- Efficiently manage time and workflows, prioritize long-term projects and day-to-day responsibilities
- Supervise and develop teams of Scientists and Research Associates
- Communicate effectively, collaborate, and provide team leadership skills.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in STEM-related discipline and at least eight (8) years of biopharma industry experience
- At least five (5) years of highly relevant experience leading the development of genome editing specificity assays, including on/off target analysis
- Substantial expertise in DNA repair pathways, mechanisms of cellular transformation, and leveraging functional genomics datasets to interpret off-target assay output
- Experience working with large datasets, including UK Biobank, Finngen, and resources, i.e., GnomAD, Exome variant server, 1000 Genomes, etc.
- Track record of successfully operationalizing genome editing characterization workflows and developing study reports supporting regulatory filings
- Exceptional quantitative skills, including experience analyzing large experimental data in partnership with computational biologists to draw statistically significant conclusions
- Extremely organized and able to efficiently manage your time and workflows, including skillfully prioritizing both long-term projects and the day-to-day responsibilities of your team
- Direct supervisory experience leading teams of Scientists and Research Associates with a track record of recruiting, mentoring, and developing talent
- Outstanding communication, collaboration, and team leadership skills.
