Director, Product Management Partner Experiences

NRG•Seattle, WA
•$210,000 - $240,000

About The Position

The Director of Product Management for Partner Experiences is the single-threaded owner of the strategy, technical roadmap, and end-to-end integration of third-party devices into the Vivint Home ecosystem. The role expands the smart home experience by integrating external hardware—including smart lighting, advanced climate controls, multi-vendor sensors, and entertainment platforms—with Vivint’s proprietary hardware. This is a highly technical individual-contributor position without direct reports. The Director operates autonomously, develops technical relationships with partner engineering and product teams, and bridges external APIs and protocols with Vivint’s internal architecture to deliver integrated consumer experiences at scale. The role owns the multi-year product strategy and technical execution plan for third-party integrations, evaluates potential partners, and defines interoperability, performance, security, and user experience standards. It works with internal platform, cloud, security, software, legal, UX, and QA teams on scalable SDKs and APIs; advocates for smart home standards; authors strategy and product documents; leads partner relationships and negotiations; and establishes integration testing and post-launch performance and customer-satisfaction reviews.

Requirements

  • 8 or more years of product management experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience focused on developer platforms, partner API ecosystems, IoT integrations, or connected smart home environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex technical product integrations with tier-one consumer electronics or software enterprise partners.
  • Proven success delivering large-scale, multi-phase technical hardware or software launches across distributed, multidisciplinary organizations.
  • Deep technical understanding of cloud-to-cloud integrations, local wireless mesh topologies such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, and Thread, device driver layers, and platform-level SDK development.
  • Ability to operate with strategic independence and lead through cross-functional influence without relying on administrative reporting lines.
  • Exceptional systems thinking focused on frictionless experiences combining hardware and software from distinct organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to lead technical discussions with external executives and translate partnership logistics into clear internal execution milestones.
  • B.S. or M.S. in a technical field such as Computer Science or Electrical/Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own the multi-year product strategy, prioritization, and technical execution blueprint for third-party device integrations in the Vivint Home ecosystem.
  • Identify and evaluate external technical partners whose hardware can fill portfolio gaps and enable new smart home experiences.
  • Define performance, security, and user experience baselines for external hardware integrated into the Vivint app ecosystem.
  • Partner with Core Platform Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, and Information Security to design scalable, secure SDKs and APIs for low-latency third-party device communication.
  • Drive product alignment with smart home standards such as Matter and Thread, as well as specialized cloud-to-cloud APIs.
  • Write strategy narratives, business requirements documents, and product definitions to gain executive alignment on ecosystem expansion opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary technical product interface to external partners’ product and engineering organizations, aligning partner roadmaps with Vivint’s architecture and negotiating and owning partner relationships.
  • Influence and drive execution across internal Software, Legal, UX Design, and QA Engineering organizations.
  • Build integration testing and post-launch telemetry review mechanisms to assess third-party hardware performance, stability, and customer satisfaction.
