Director of Brand Marketing

Rebel
$150,000 - $200,000

About The Position

REBEL is the first and largest tech platform transforming retail's $1 trillion returns problem into a smarter, more sustainable model. As the only Certified B Corporation returns recommerce marketplace backed by top-tier investors, we're leading the returns revolution - partnering with over 2,500 top brands to give shoppers unbeatable deals of up to 70% off on open-box products, while keeping millions of pounds of returns out of landfills every year. This role is for a builder: strategic enough to set direction for a channel, and energized by doing the work, not outsourcing it. The Director of Brand & Social Marketing leads REBEL's organic brand presence and is accountable for growing brand awareness, engagement, and earned reach. You'll set the strategy for how REBEL shows up on social and in the press, and you'll personally execute against it alongside a lean team. You'll partner with the CEO and leadership on REBEL's overall brand positioning, then translate it into content, campaigns, and cultural moments that travel. Success will be measured through a combination of brand, engagement, creator, earned media, and commercial performance metrics. This is not a "manage agencies" role. This is a role for someone who knows how brands actually grow on the internet.

Requirements

  • 7–10 years in brand marketing, social, PR, or cultural marketing
  • Proven track record of growing a brand through organic social and earned media
  • Hands-on experience creating or contributing to viral, culturally resonant brand moments
  • Experience setting and reporting on social and brand performance metrics, and connecting them to business outcomes
  • Experience building or maintaining brand voice and social guidelines across teams
  • Startup or challenger brand experience strongly preferred
  • Exceptional storyteller with strong writing and creative instincts
  • Deep understanding of how content spreads on social platforms
  • Strong POV on what works—and what doesn't—on the internet today
  • Data-informed but creatively led; knows how to balance metrics with intuition
  • Comfortable operating without agencies, big teams, or safety nets
  • Builder mentality with a bias toward action
  • Willing to personally create, edit, post, and iterate
  • Low ego, high standards, strong opinions, loosely held
  • Energized by speed, experimentation, and ownership
  • Obsessed with turning social storytelling into massive brand awareness
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Lead REBEL's social strategy end-to-end across key platforms (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, emerging channels)
  • Develop and evolve REBEL's social voice, tone, and storytelling style to maximize reach, shareability, and cultural relevance
  • Set a clear point of view on what content should travel, trend, and break through—and personally help create it
  • Run a high-velocity test-and-learn content engine focused on virality, scaled awareness, and brand affinity
  • Set and report on goals for organic reach, impressions, engagement, share of voice, and follower growth
  • Drive earned media strategy and execution—story development, pitching, and relationship building
  • Turn social momentum and cultural moments into PR wins, and vice versa
  • Secure consistent, high-impact coverage that reinforces REBEL's brand story and fuels awareness
  • Identify, recruit, and manage creator partnerships built for authentic storytelling and organic reach, not paid performance
  • Ensure creator content feels native, on-brand, and capable of driving viral moments
  • Identify cultural moments, trends, and internet conversations where REBEL can credibly participate
  • Build grassroots buzz through community engagement and reactive storytelling; turn customers and fans into active brand advocates
  • Partner with the CEO and leadership to evolve REBEL's positioning and personality; maintain and enforce the brand voice and style guidelines that scale across the organization
  • Act as a day-to-day steward of the brand, helping teams move fast without diluting it
  • Support comarketing partnerships and event opportunities that grow awareness and virality
  • Work closely with growth, creative, and product to keep brand storytelling connected to business goals
  • Lead through influence today; grow into managing a small social and brand team over time
  • Manage contractors, freelancers, and creators as needed
  • Build lightweight processes that enable speed, creativity, and consistency

Benefits

  • Rocket-ship growth with meaningful upside
  • The chance to build a brand people actually talk about
