About The Position

Samsara’s Machine Learning, AI, Analytics & Data (MAAD) team builds intelligence and technology that helps go-to-market teams work faster, make better decisions, and spend more time with customers. The Director, GTM AI Engineering leads the AI Engineering team for GTM and partners with Data Science, Analytics, and Data Engineering to serve Sales, Customer Success, Support, Enablement, and GTM leadership. This is a hands-on leadership role, with approximately 70% of time spent building—prototyping agents, writing code, and designing evaluations—and 30% spent leading the team, setting strategy, and influencing stakeholders. The role develops intelligent workflow experiences, including AI agents and copilots that reduce manual work, propensity and prioritization signals, and the data, evaluation, and measurement foundations needed to make AI products reliable and trusted. It owns the shared GTM AI platform and technical and product strategy, along with revenue-critical forecasting, propensity, and CRM data-quality work. The director also drives field adoption and establishes responsible-AI practices, including safety, privacy, reliability, least-privilege access, and human approval for changes to systems of record. This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the United States. The role is eligible for an initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff and ongoing refresh opportunities tied to performance, subject to plan terms and conditions. The stated annual base salary range is $182,000–$325,000 USD, with the applicable range depending on the primary work location and other factors.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience across software engineering, machine learning, data science, or data platforms, including meaningful leadership experience; must still write code regularly.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Hands-on experience building and shipping LLM applications and agentic workflows to production, including tool use, retrieval, context engineering, and production reliability.
  • Production full-stack and cloud engineering experience, such as Python or TypeScript, AWS, and Databricks, including ownership of systems other teams depend on.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and running evaluation frameworks for LLM or agent systems and using them to guide quality decisions.
  • Daily, fluent use of AI agents and coding assistants in personal work, with a point of view on how they change the way teams build.
  • Track record of shipping internal or customer-facing AI/ML products with measurable business impact.
  • Experience with predictive modeling, experimentation, analytics, and data engineering foundations.
  • Strong product judgment and ability to translate ambiguous business problems into simple, valuable solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with executives and frontline users, including the ability to demonstrate products to a sales floor and present to a VP.
  • People-first leadership style and a track record of hiring, developing, and retaining strong technical talent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building AI or decisioning products for Sales, Customer Success, Support, Marketing, or other GTM functions, ideally in a fast-growing enterprise SaaS environment.
  • Experience with CRM, customer data, support, and knowledge-management systems such as Salesforce, Gong, Gainsight, Zendesk, and Databricks, and connecting agents to them through MCP servers or similar integrations.
  • Experience with agent SDKs and harnesses such as Claude Code / Agent SDK, OpenAI Agents SDK, LangGraph, or similar; LLM observability and evaluation tooling such as Braintrust or MLflow; and model APIs from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google.
  • Experience operating AI products at scale, including cost management, monitoring, and governance.
  • A visible habit of learning in public, such as writing, talks, open-source work, or internal “what’s new in AI” sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Prototype, ship, and iterate on AI agents, copilots, and workflow automations for GTM teams, from initial demos through production systems.
  • Own the architecture of the shared GTM AI platform, including orchestration, LLM and tool gateways, identity and access, and MCP and SDK contracts for integrations across GTM web applications, Salesforce, Slack, desktop, and Claude plugins.
  • Design and operate evaluation frameworks for agent and LLM behavior, including golden datasets, LLM-as-judge, human review loops, and regression suites; use transcripts and evaluation results to identify failures and improve quality.
  • Use agents, coding assistants, and agent harnesses in daily work and build shared tooling, patterns, and harnesses to improve team productivity.
  • Track developments in models, agent frameworks, MCP and tool ecosystems, and context engineering, and make practical recommendations and build-versus-buy decisions for GTM use cases.
  • Advocate for AI adoption across Sales, Customer Success, and Support through demonstrations, field feedback, and engagement with representatives and frontline managers.
  • Own technical and product strategy for GTM AI, including data foundations, instrumentation, governance, observability, platform prioritization, model routing, and per-user AI spend controls; influence senior leaders on priorities, investment, and operating model.
  • Own forecasting, propensity, and CRM data-quality work used by sales leadership, maintaining calibration, validation, and clarity about model limitations.
  • Partner with Sales, Customer Success, Support, Enablement, Operations, Product, and Engineering leaders to identify opportunities, define success metrics, and develop durable products.
  • Establish responsible-AI practices for safety, privacy, reliability, and human-in-the-loop workflows, including least-privilege permissions and human approval for changes to systems of record.
  • Champion and role-model Samsara’s cultural principles as the company scales.
  • Hire, develop, and lead an inclusive, engaged, high-performing AI Engineering team.

Benefits

  • Initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff and ongoing refresh opportunities tied to performance, subject to plan terms and conditions.
  • Performance-based bonus/variable pay and equity for eligible roles.
  • Flexible, employee-led remote work model.
  • Professional development stipend.
  • Comprehensive health and parental leave plans.
