Director, GEO & SEO (Digital Activation) - Build a GEO Practice

Adelphi Group•New York, NY
•$90,000 - $215,000

About The Position

OMD is seeking a Director, GEO & SEO to lead generative engine optimization (GEO) across a portfolio of clients and build a new GEO practice. GEO is an emerging discipline, and GEO is not currently in scope for these clients; any program would require incremental funding. The initial focus is to educate clients and account teams, explore potential applications, and develop a pipeline of engagements. This is an individual contributor role at the outset, with the opportunity to build a team as GEO engagements are sold. The role requires substantial digital marketing experience, particularly in SEO and GEO, and the ability to lead enterprise client engagements, ideally for Fortune 500 companies. The Director will assess where GEO can create value, develop recommendations, present to audiences ranging from analysts to C-level executives, and help shape scopes and staffing plans. The role also supports new business efforts and test-and-learn programs as GEO evolves. The position requires working in the office a minimum of three days per week, subject to local law and any additional in-office requirements set by the agency or manager. Travel is as needed, approximately once per quarter. The salary range is $90,000 to $215,000.

Requirements

  • Substantial digital marketing experience with an emphasis on SEO and GEO.
  • Experience leading SEO/GEO engagements for enterprise clients, ideally Fortune 500, across a portfolio.
  • A track record of advancing client partnerships, delivering results, and creating new business opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of the changing search industry, including key players, vendors, and technology.
  • Ability to translate detailed search topics into clear takeaways for any audience, in writing, in conversation, and in well-built PowerPoint decks.
  • Independence in solving problems, comfort working across teams, and organization to manage several projects at once.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with LLM visibility monitoring tools and partners, such as Bluefish or Profound.
  • Previous agency experience.

Responsibilities

  • Learn each client's business, industry, and goals, and define how GEO can support them.
  • Stay current on generative AI-powered search, including key players, vendors, tools, and technology, and share learnings with the team.
  • Explain GEO capabilities, use cases, and potential value to account teams.
  • Help account teams identify opportunities and shape GEO ideas for client conversations.
  • Join client conversations as needed to explain GEO and explore client needs.
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses of SEO/GEO performance or potential and turn findings into clear recommendations.
  • Present strategies to clients and internal stakeholders, from analysts to C-level executives.
  • Work with account teams, leadership, and Finance to develop scopes and staffing plans.
  • Support new business efforts, including pitches and case studies, as needed.
  • Partner with teams on test-and-learn programs and refine GEO approaches as the field evolves.
  • Build a team as GEO engagements are sold in.
