About The Position

At Easterseals PORT Health (ESPH), the Direct Support Professional helps carry out the organization’s mission of empowering individuals and strengthening communities by assisting people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) with everyday living tasks and personal goals. The position provides care in an individual’s home and community in Marshville, North Carolina. It is part-time, 16 hours per week, with weekend availability, and pays $15.00 per hour.

The role includes assistance with household tasks, meals, personal care, employment support, transportation, appointments, errands, and schedule planning. The Direct Support Professional also completes daily documentation and reporting in the electronic health system of record. Entry-level applicants receive on-the-job training, including training in CPR/first aid, Mindset, medication administration, infectious disease, and seizure management.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• Basic housekeeping, basic nutrition, and safety-protocol knowledge.
• Interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and dependability.
• Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems or the ability to learn them.
• Reliable transportation and current auto insurance.

Responsibilities

• Provide care in the individual’s home and community.
• Assist with housekeeping, meal preparation, cooking, and cleaning.
• Assist with personal care, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and changing diapers.
• Provide employment support.
• Transport clients to appointments and run errands as needed.
• Help plan and organize the individual’s schedule.
• Complete daily documentation and reporting in the electronic health system of record.
