About The Position

Easterseals PORT Health is hiring a Direct Support Professional to support individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) in their home and community. The role helps individuals complete everyday living tasks and achieve their goals, while providing families with support and respite. The position is based in West Jefferson, North Carolina, and pays $15.00 per hour. Full-time and PRN schedules are available. The full-time schedule is Saturday at 7 a.m. through Monday at 10 a.m., plus float hours; PRN work is periodic and as needed. Staff must remain on site for the duration of their shift and clock out to sleep for eight hours each night.

The position includes paid training in CPR and first aid, Mindset, medication administration, infectious disease, and seizure management. The organization also offers flexible scheduling, on-the-job skill enhancement and growth, an optional 403(b) retirement plan, and an Employee Assistance Program. An assortment of benefits is available for part-time and as-needed positions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic housekeeping, nutrition, and safety knowledge.
• Interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and dependability.
• Proficiency with electronic health record systems or the ability to learn them.
• Reliable transportation, a driver’s license, and current auto insurance.
• Ability to stay on site for the duration of the shift and clock out to sleep for eight hours each night.

Responsibilities

• Assist with everyday tasks, including housekeeping, meal preparation, cooking, and cleaning.
• Provide personal care, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and changing diapers.
• Provide employment support.
• Transport clients to appointments and run errands as needed.
• Help plan and organize the individual’s schedule.
• Complete daily documentation and reporting in the electronic health system of record.
