About The Position

Easterseals PORT Health is hiring a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their home and community. The DSP helps people complete everyday living tasks and work toward their goals. The role is based in West Jefferson, North Carolina, and pays $15.00 per hour. Full-time and part-time PRN schedules are available. The full-time schedule runs from Saturday at 7 a.m. through Monday at 10 a.m., plus float hours; PRN work is periodic and as needed. DSPs must remain on site for the duration of their shift and clock out for eight hours of sleep each night.

The role includes assisting with household tasks, meals, personal care, and employment support; transporting individuals to appointments and errands; helping plan and organize schedules; and recording daily documentation in an electronic health record system. On-the-job training is provided, including paid training in CPR/first aid, Mindset, medication administration, infectious disease, and seizure management.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• Basic housekeeping, basic nutrition, and safety protocol knowledge.
• Interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and dependability.
• Proficiency with electronic health record systems or the ability to learn them.
• Reliable transportation, a driver's license, and current auto insurance.
• Must stay on site for the duration of the shift and clock out to sleep for eight hours each night.

• Experience is not required; entry-level applicants are welcome and on-the-job training is provided.

Responsibilities

• Assist with housekeeping, meal preparation, cooking, and cleaning.
• Provide personal care, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and changing diapers.
• Provide employment support.
• Transport clients to appointments and run errands as needed.
• Help plan and organize the individual's schedule.
• Complete daily documentation and reporting in the electronic health system of record.
