Direct Support Professional - Group Home
About The Position
The Direct Support Professional provides person-centered support to Individuals in a group home. The role helps Individuals work toward their goals, supports their safety, well-being, rights, and independence, and follows individualized person-centered and behavior plans. The position also includes household duties, meal preparation, transportation and appointment support, medication administration as needed, and timely completion of required documentation. Staff must protect Individuals from abuse and neglect, maintain confidentiality, remain accessible in homes requiring 24/7 care, and cooperate with company and regulatory inspections and inquiries.
Responsibilities
- Comply with company and regulatory policies and procedures, house guidelines, BSLS Core Values, the Mission Statement, and Corporate Philosophies.
- Set a positive example for Individuals and follow each Individual’s person-centered and behavior plans.
- Provide opportunities throughout the day for Individuals to work toward their goals, including encouraging participation in activities.
- Provide quality care and maintain a safe, healthy environment that protects Individuals’ rights and fosters trust.
- Protect Individuals from abuse or neglect and immediately report any occurrence to appropriate entities.
- Maintain the confidentiality of Individuals.
- Prepare meals as needed according to food specifications, diets, food exchanges, and documentation; understand food supply and storage procedures.
- Transport Individuals and attend appointments with them; advocate and obtain necessary documentation when needed.
- Use Individual funds as applicable to help Individuals budget.
- Complete required documentation before the end of the shift, including progress notes, daily support logs, event and incident reports, LOA forms, and Individual inventories.
- Assist with supervision of Individuals doing laundry as assigned and coach or assist Individuals with bedroom cleanliness according to house guidelines.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the home site according to the assignment chart and keep it inspection-ready.
- Remain awake and immediately accessible in homes requiring 24/7 care.
- Administer medications as needed.
- Communicate handoffs to the next shift staff.
- Cooperate with Beacon Specialized Living, DHS staff, and other regulatory bodies during inspections, investigations, or inquiries.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
