About The Position

At Easterseals PORT Health (ESPH), Direct Support Professionals help carry out the organization’s mission by supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) with everyday living tasks and personal goals. The role provides care in an individual’s home and community. Duties include household support, personal care, employment support, schedule planning, transportation to appointments and errands, and documenting and reporting in an electronic health record system.

The position is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and pays $17.00 per hour. Part-time schedules are 26 hours per week, with two schedule options involving 12-hour shifts every other weekend and weekday shifts. Full-time schedule options include weekday shifts with rotating or every-other-weekend work. Training is provided, including CPR and first aid, Mindset, medication administration, infectious disease, and seizure management. Part-time and as-needed positions are eligible for an assortment of benefits.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• Basic knowledge of housekeeping, nutrition, and safety protocols.
• Interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and dependability.
• Proficiency with electronic health record systems or the ability to learn technology.
• Reliable transportation, a driver’s license, and current auto insurance.

Nice To Haves

• No prior experience is required; on-the-job training is provided.

Responsibilities

• Provide care in the individual’s home and community.
• Assist with housekeeping, meal preparation, cooking, and cleaning.
• Provide personal care, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and changing diapers.
• Provide employment support.
• Transport clients to appointments and run errands as needed.
• Help plan and organize the individual’s schedule.
• Complete daily documentation and reporting in the electronic health system of record.
