About The Position

The Dentist position with the Department of Corrections (DOC) offers an opportunity to provide essential dental care that supports the health of inmates at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Albion. Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved school of dentistry. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • Possess a license to practice dentistry issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct periodontal exams, review medical histories and x-rays, diagnose oral diseases, and create treatment plans
  • Provide restorative and preventative care, maintain infection control, and safely administer anesthetics and solutions
  • Explain preventative care and post-procedural instructions and coordinate referrals for specialized treatment
  • Lead and oversee dental staff, provide training, evaluate work results, and participate in hiring decisions
  • Monitor schedules, documentation, patient requests, and grievances, and support continuous quality improvement
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and ensure proper security and control of tools and materials
