About The Position

As a Dentist with the Department of Corrections (DOC), you will have an opportunity to deliver trusted care with strong support from experienced staff. This role allows you to focus on patient needs while enjoying a balanced schedule. You will play a key part in improving oral health outcomes for the inmate population at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Houtzdale. Your work will help strengthen the overall standard of care within the facility. This position ensures that inmates receive proper dental care through thorough evaluations, treatments, and follow up instruction.

Requirements

• Graduation from an approved school of dentistry. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
• Possess a license to practice dentistry issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.
• Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.

Responsibilities

• Conduct periodontal exams and provide restorative and preventive treatments
• Create treatment plans based on medical history and diagnostic results
• Guide dental assistants and hygienists in meeting required standards
• Evaluate schedules and documentation to maintain quality service
• Oversee supplies, equipment, and safety requirements
• Support daily operations through assigned tasks
