About The Position

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a dedicated Dentist at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Smithfield. You will practice meaningful dentistry alongside a collaborative health care team, supported by consistent, predictable scheduling that leaves your evenings and weekends free.

Requirements

• Graduation from an approved school of dentistry. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
• Possess a license to practice dentistry issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.
• Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct periodontal exams, review medical histories, assess x-rays, and develop treatment plans.
• Provide restorative and preventative procedures while maintaining infection control standards.
• Explain preventative care and post-procedural instructions to support patient understanding.
• Consult with medical specialists and refer patients for advanced care when necessary.
• Lead and oversee dental staff, provide training, and support performance evaluations.
• Evaluate schedules, documentation, and dental office operations to improve quality and meet standards.
