About The Position
The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a dedicated Dentist at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Smithfield. This clinical role offers purpose, stability, and work-life balance, allowing you to directly improve the health, dignity, and well-being of inmates. You will practice meaningful dentistry alongside a collaborative health care team, supported by consistent, predictable scheduling that leaves evenings and weekends free.
Requirements
- Graduation from an approved school of dentistry. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
- Possess a license to practice dentistry issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Conduct periodontal exams, review medical histories, assess x-rays, and develop treatment plans.
- Provide restorative and preventative procedures while maintaining infection control standards.
- Explain preventative care and post-procedural instructions to support patient understanding.
- Consult with medical specialists and refer patients for advanced care when necessary.
- Lead and oversee dental staff, provide training, and support performance evaluations.
- Evaluate schedules, documentation, and dental office operations to improve quality and meet standards.
