Corrections Counselor 1 - SCI Albion
About The Position
This role gives you the chance to guide inmates through important decisions that shape their future at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Albion. You will work as part of a supportive team that values strong communication and sound judgment. This opportunity lets you help individuals move forward while supporting the mission of the facility. This position focuses on providing counseling, casework services, and guidance that supports inmate adjustment and successful community reintegration. You will analyze information, coordinate programming, and collaborate with staff to meet individual needs.
Requirements
- Three years and six months as a corrections officer, and 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; or A bachelor’s degree including 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field.
- Obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this job.
- Meet the PA residency requirement.
- Be able to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Nice To Haves
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Responsibilities
- Meet with inmates to offer support, address concerns, and encourage positive decisions
- Develop records and reports to track progress and support effective reintegration
- Evaluate tests and histories to determine appropriate programming and risk levels
- Work with staff to align treatment plans, activities, and educational services
- Prepare reports and recommendations that assist with re-entry planning and placement
