Corrections Food Service Instructor - SCI Albion
About The Position
Join the Department of Corrections as a Corrections Food Service Instructor and guide positive change every day! This position helps the inmates at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Albion learn food service skills that prepare them for future opportunities. You will encourage personal growth while ensuring meals are prepared safely and on schedule. Make every shift count by building skills, structure, and confidence in others! This position guides inmates in daily food service activities and helps maintain a safe and orderly kitchen environment. It ensures proper preparation, service, and sanitation while supporting vocational training.
Requirements
- Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Instruct inmates in preparing, producing, servicing, and baking food items
- Teach proper use, cleaning, maintenance, and storage of tools and equipment
- Ensure meals follow recipes while being prepared and served in a timely manner
- Inspect food, equipment, and work areas to confirm compliance with safety and sanitation standards
- Review menus and census data, adjust recipes, and manage food storage using first-in, first-out procedures
- Plan, review, and evaluate inmate work assignments and maintain care, custody, and control
