Requirements

• A bachelor's degree with major course work in recreation and physical education; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must meet the PA residency requirement.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and conduct structured and general activities, including wellness programs, sports, inmate organizations, and volunteer resources
• Provide individual and group instruction, coaching, and physical education, while leading participants through recreational programs
• Assess inmate interests, review program effectiveness, prepare reports, and maintain records according to departmental policies and American Correctional Association (ACA) standards
• Maintain recreation areas and equipment, supervise inmate setup and cleanup, and manage storage, inventory, and supply requests
• Assist in setting program goals, support budgeting recommendations, and help carry out administrative tasks for recreational activities
