About The Position

The Delicatessen Clerk handles food safely and keeps the work area clean and neat. The role may operate department registers and accept payments and make change. The clerk provides courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and team members, supporting a positive company image. The position reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home, Food Service Director, and Delicatessen Department Manager. It has no direct reports. The position requires less than a high school education or equivalent experience and six months or less of similar or related work experience. Employees must be able to follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information, request supplies, and perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages. The work involves medium physical effort, with lifting or moving up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly. The work environment is fast-paced and includes daily exposure to dust, noise, equipment movement hazards, and electrical shock, with occasional exposure to temperature extremes and cleaning chemicals or solvents. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.
Less than a high school education or equivalent experience and six months or less of similar or related work experience.
Able to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; and request supplies orally or in writing.
Able to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Able to perform medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Visual abilities include distance vision beyond 20 inches and under 20 feet, with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
Able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, efficient, friendly customer service with care, concern, and patience.
Greet customers, learn and use their names when possible, and assist them with finding or reaching products, handling heavy items, and sharing suggestions or requests.
Answer telephone calls promptly and provide helpful service, including taking customer orders.
Take customer orders at the delicatessen counter.
Work with coworkers to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
Review daily orders and check food status and appearance for freshness.
Follow sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and neat.
Ensure an adequate food supply is ready, develop or follow a production list, and anticipate daily department product needs.
Prepare, finish, and replenish products as needed.
Check in and put away products and, when applicable, review invoices.
Operate department registers and receive payments and make change where applicable.
Remove trash promptly.
Follow department and company requirements for personal hygiene and dress, as well as company policies and store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
Wash dishes as necessary.
Order products and supplies as necessary.
Deliver orders as needed.
Price products for customers as necessary.
Assist in other store areas and perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.
