About The Position

The Deli Clerk provides excellent customer service and supports daily deli operations, including food preparation, product knowledge, product rotation, merchandising, shrink control, and safe work practices. The role helps maintain department quality, inventory, stock levels, and cleanliness while following company procedures and applicable health and safety guidelines. Duties may vary by store location, and management may change position requirements.

Requirements

• Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; and effectively present information in one-on-one and small-group situations.
• Use basic addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, fractions, weights, and measures.
• Food Handler’s Certification as required by state law; certification is provided at store level.
• Regularly stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel items, reach, communicate with associates and customers, taste and smell, and lift or move up to 10 pounds.
• Frequently climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally sit and lift or move up to 100 pounds.
• Have close-distance vision, ability to adjust focus, distinguish colors, and use peripheral vision and depth perception.
• Work around moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles regularly; wet or humid conditions, cleaning chemicals, extreme cold or heat, electrical-shock risk, and vibration occur occasionally.
• The position has no required education or prior experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver superior guest service and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Prepare food and understand the use and taste of products offered.
• Perform quality assurance checks and properly handle and rotate products.
• Follow day-to-day operational procedures to maintain stock levels, inventory, and cleanliness.
• Promote sales and process products through the POS system.
• Handle cash, checks, credit and debit cards, gift cards, and coupons.
• Work within company programs, policies, and procedures; promote and support established programs.
• Follow health code guidelines and safety policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
