About The Position

The Custodian maintains cleanliness and floors in assigned areas of college facilities, including classrooms, labs, offices, restrooms, theatres, lecture and conference rooms, the gymnasium, and amphitheaters. The role includes removing trash, cleaning boards and erasers, cleaning glass and chrome, mopping and vacuuming floors, and performing floor maintenance. The employee also turns off lights and secures doors. The position requires walking, standing, stooping, stretching, pushing, pulling, reaching, and lifting at least 20 pounds on a recurring basis, as well as exposure to indoor and outdoor temperatures. The employee must follow oral and written communications and use a computer to clock in and out and view personnel-related information. A valid Florida Driver’s License is required to drive college vehicles when necessary, and the employee must have personal transportation to report to other college locations as assigned. Forklift certification is required within one year of employment. The position may be subject to criminal background screening.

Requirements

• Six months of recent, verifiable custodial building-cleaning and floor-maintenance experience.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License to drive college vehicles when necessary.
• Personal transportation to report to other college locations as assigned.
• Forklift certification within one year of employment.
• Ability to walk, stand, stoop, stretch, push, pull, reach, and lift at least 20 pounds on a recurring basis.
• Ability to work with exposure to indoor and outdoor temperatures.
• Ability to follow oral and/or written communications.
• Computer knowledge to clock in and out and view personnel-related information.

Responsibilities

• Pick up and remove trash from assigned areas, including classrooms, labs, offices, restrooms, and theatres, or other areas as directed.
• Clean chalkboards, blackboards, whiteboards, and erasers daily.
• Turn off lights and secure doors.
• Clean glass, chrome, and exits in designated college facilities.
• Damp- and wet-mop vinyl and tile floors.
• Vacuum floors and carpets.
• Perform assigned floor maintenance, including vacuuming, shampooing, stripping and waxing, and buffing.
