Custodian (Part-Time Weekend)
About The Position
The Custodian helps maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for facility guests, participants, and staff. The role supports the facility’s daily appearance and operation by keeping public, recreational, and employee areas clean and well-maintained. Successful candidates are dependable, motivated self-starters who take pride in their work and can manage cleaning tasks with minimal supervision. This is a part-time weekend position at the Rec Center at Hilltop in Overland Park, Kansas. Available shifts are Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 AM–6:00 PM, or Saturday and Sunday, 12:00 PM–8:00 PM. Pay starts at $15.00 per hour.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, products, and equipment.
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to lift, bend, reach, and stand for extended periods.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check.
Nice To Haves
- Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or facilities maintenance experience.
Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain facility areas through sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and other routine custodial tasks.
- Sanitize and restock restrooms to ensure cleanliness and proper supply levels.
- Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste appropriately.
- Maintain the cleanliness of gymnasiums and basketball courts, including sweeping and spot cleaning playing surfaces.
- Clean common areas such as hallways, entrances, stairways, break rooms, and gathering spaces.
- Monitor custodial supply inventory and notify supervisors when replenishment is needed.
- Respond promptly to spills and other cleaning needs to help maintain a safe environment.
- Assist with room setups and breakdowns for programs, meetings, and special events.
- Identify and report maintenance concerns or facility issues requiring repair.
- Follow safety procedures and organizational guidelines.
- Work cooperatively with coworkers and communicate effectively regarding facility needs.
